CHILDREN

Childhood is a time of immense curiosity, growth, and exploration of the world around them. Children begin to socialize with others through the language of play, learn rules, expectations and boundaries, and start to communicate their essential physical and emotional needs to others.

As these years can seem like they should be an enjoyable phase for most, parents or caregivers may find it confusing and upsetting to see their child appear frequently sad, angry, or defiant. Additionally, because children are in developmental stages where they often lack the awareness or skills to be able to communicate their needs verbally, parents or caregivers may not have a clear idea of what is wrong or how to help.

Therapy can be helpful in allowing your child to express his or her physical and emotional needs, and learn to manage upsetting emotions, through use of their primary language of play, or through a combination of play and talk therapies. A therapist can help your child feel safe to express their view of the world around them, while also assisting you, as parents and caregivers, establish effective ways to help your child at home.
