Young Adults
Adulting can be tough. As young adults, we get a taste of what itβs like to experience a greater sense of independence, yet at times we still feel tied to our adolescence, feeling just how dependent we still are. Maybe this shift towards separation causes friction with parents, family members, or friends, as a part of you is ready to pave your own path.
And just as much, sometimes that sense of autonomy can also feel scary β because we believe independence must mean we know what career path we must take, how to create and sustain meaningful friendships and romantic relationships, and how to manage the stress of life that comes our way. Being a young adult can feel overwhelming, confusing, anxiety-provoking, lonely, and disheartening at times, causing us to question our ability to adequately handle the ups and downs of our daily life, and envision a happy, successful future for ourselves.
Although it may seem like these challenges arise from sudden events, difficult relationships, or lack of clarity in our current experiences or ideal future, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Our attachment bonds, family history, past traumas, sense of identity, and experiences around race and gender also impact our struggles today.
How I Can Help
In our work together, we will begin to examine what is happening in the present that is causing you distress, build upon your strengths and strategies for managing stress, and increase your clarity around what you envision for a gratifying future and the steps needed to get there. Additionally, we will also start to unpack some of those past experiences that have led you to where you are now, bringing insight around patterns of thinking and behaving that no longer serve you, to make way for lasting change.
Not only will you begin to know yourself better, but you will feel more confident in who you are as a young adult, and in your ability to navigate challenges that arise. Moreover, you will become more aware of your own patterns in relationships with family, friends, and romantic partners, and will know how to create more meaningful and satisfying connections. You will also begin to experience clarity around a path that feels authentic to you, and can feel more prepared in taking that leap toward independence.
Adulting does not have to be riddled with anxiety and self-doubt. With commitment to yourself and a willingness to do tough work around healing and change, a better future is possible.
Freedom and happiness await.
